A1Menyatakan "ada"
Kalimat "Ada … di …" versi bahasa Inggris. Pakai there is untuk satu benda atau benda tak terhitung, there are untuk jamak, dan jangan terjemahkan "ada" dengan have.
Ingat iklan kos yang sering lewat di grup WA: "Ada Wi-Fi, ada dua kamar mandi, ada parkir motor." Isinya daftar apa saja yang ada di tempat itu. Bahasa Inggris membuka daftar seperti ini dengan there is (satu benda atau tak terhitung) dan there are (jamak): There is Wi-Fi. There are two bathrooms. Jadi setiap mau bilang "di sini ada…", mulai dengan there is/are, bukan have.

Kapan dipakai?
Pakai there is / there are untuk memberi tahu bahwa sesuatu ada di suatu tempat. Biasanya ini informasi baru bagi pendengar:
- Fasilitas & tempat: There is a gym in our building.
- Jumlah: There are twenty people in my department.
- Jadwal & kejadian: There is a meeting at two. There is a problem with the server.
- Tidak ada: There is no parking here.
- There is a mosque next to our office.Ada masjid di sebelah kantor kami.
- There are two MRT stations near here.Ada dua stasiun MRT di dekat sini.
- There is a problem with my laptop.Ada masalah dengan laptop saya.
There di sini bukan "di sana". Ia cuma pembuka kalimat. Kalau memang mau bilang "di sana", tambahkan over there: There is a café over there.
Is atau are? Lihat kata benda sesudahnya
Pilihan is atau are ditentukan kata benda sesudahnya. Saat ngobrol, there is hampir selalu disingkat there's.
Hati-hati dengan a lot of. Yang dilihat tetap kata bendanya, bukan a lot-nya.

Kesalahan umum: There is many people in the lobby. → There are many people in the lobby.
People itu jamak, jadi pakai there are.
Negatif & pertanyaan
Negatif: there isn't / there aren't, biasanya ditemani any untuk jamak dan tak terhitung: There aren't any taxis. Bisa juga there is no / there are no, yang kesannya lebih tegas: There is no Wi-Fi in this room.
Pertanyaan: pindahkan is/are ke depan: Is there…? Are there any…? Untuk jumlah: How many … are there?
Jawaban singkatnya pakai there lagi: Yes, there is. / No, there aren't.
- There isn't any milk in the fridge.Tidak ada susu di kulkas.
- Are there any questions? — Yes, there are.Ada pertanyaan? — Ya, ada.
- How many floors are there in this building?Gedung ini ada berapa lantai?
Kesalahan umum: There isn't no parking here. → There is no parking here.
Satu kalimat cukup satu kata negatif. Pilih isn't any atau is no.
Jangan terjemahkan "ada" dengan have
Kata ada kita pakai untuk banyak hal. Bahasa Inggris memakai kata yang berbeda untuk masing-masing:
- ada sesuatu di suatu tempat → there is/are: Ada kafe di lantai satu → There is a café on the first floor.
- ada = punya → have/has: Kami ada dua mobil kantor → We have two company cars.
- orangnya ada (hadir) → to be: Bu Rina ada? → Is Bu Rina in the office?

Kesalahan umum: In our office have a prayer room. → There is a prayer room in our office.
"Ada di suatu tempat" pakai there is, bukan have. Kalau mau pakai has, jadikan kantornya pemilik: Our office has a prayer room.
Kesalahan khas orang Indonesia
Selain ada = have, ada tiga kesalahan lain yang sering muncul:
- Lupa there: Is a problem with the server ✗ → There is a problem with the server ✓
- There have ✗ → There is / There are ✓
- Is/are tertukar gara-gara a lot of: traffic tak terhitung, jadi there is a lot of traffic.
- There is a lot of traffic this morning.Pagi ini macet sekali.
- There are a lot of cars on the toll road.Banyak mobil di jalan tol.
Kesalahan umum: There are a lot of traffic on Jalan Sudirman today. → There is a lot of traffic on Jalan Sudirman today.
Traffic tak terhitung, jadi tetap there is, walaupun macetnya parah dan ada a lot of.
Ingat!
- "Ada … di suatu tempat" pakai there is/are, bukan have.
- there is + satu benda atau tak terhitung. there are + jamak.
- Negatif: there isn't / aren't any atau there is / are no. Cukup satu kata negatif.
- Bertanya: Is there…? Are there any…? How many … are there?
- There di sini bukan "di sana". Untuk "di sana", pakai over there.

"Ada musala di lantai lima" bicara soal sesuatu di suatu tempat. Pakai There is, bukan have atau there has.
