C1Kata kerja jadi kata benda di laporan
Dipakai di laporan, proposal, dan email resmi: kata kerja atau kata sifat diubah jadi kata benda, supaya kalimat lebih padat dan fokus ke hasil. Pakai secukupnya, karena terlalu banyak kata benda bikin kalimat berat dibaca.
Coba lihat nama folder arsip di kantor. Tidak ada yang menamainya "Kami memperbaiki server", tapi "Perbaikan Server Mei". Kegiatannya dipadatkan jadi satu kata benda, jadi gampang disimpan dan dibahas. Nominalisasi bekerja sama: We repaired the server jadi The repair of the server, lalu kalimatnya tinggal dilanjutkan: took two days.

Dari "kami memutuskan" ke "keputusan"
Bandingkan We decided to postpone the launch dengan The decision to postpone the launch…. Kalimat kedua memakai nominalisasi: kata kerja decide diubah jadi kata benda (noun) decision. Bahasa Indonesia juga sering begini: memutuskan jadi keputusan, naik jadi kenaikan.
Di laporan dan email resmi, cara ini berguna karena:
- Fokusnya ke hasil, bukan ke orang. Pembaca laporan peduli pada the decision to postpone, bukan siapa yang mengusulkannya di rapat.
- Kalimatnya lebih padat. Dua kalimat bisa jadi satu, dan kata benda tadi bisa langsung jadi subject.
- The approval of the budget took two weeks.Persetujuan anggarannya makan waktu dua minggu.
- There has been a steady increase in customer complaints.Keluhan pelanggan terus bertambah.

Cara membentuk: ganti, lalu pasang pola
Langkahnya dua. Pertama, ubah kata kerja atau kata sifatnya jadi kata benda. Kedua, pasang salah satu pola laporan ini:
- the + N + of + N: the launch of the app
- N + to + V1: the decision to postpone
- There has been + a/an + N + in: There has been an increase in costs.
- N + led to / resulted in + N: The delay led to a loss of revenue.
Beberapa kata tidak berubah bentuk: increase, decrease, delay, change, launch. Cukup tambahkan a atau the.

Kapan sebaiknya tidak dipakai
Nominalisasi itu alat, bukan kewajiban. Kalau semua kata kerja diubah jadi kata benda, pembaca harus menebak siapa melakukan apa.
- Terlalu berat: The implementation of the improvement of the process resulted in a reduction in errors.
- Lebih jelas: We improved the process, so there are fewer errors now.
Di laporan dan proposal, nominalisasi boleh banyak. Di chat dan email ke tim, utamakan kata kerja.

Setiap the … of itu satu lapis bungkus: the implementation of the improvement of the process sudah dua lapis sebelum pembaca ketemu isinya. Tes cepat: setelah sekali baca, bisakah atasanmu menjawab "siapa melakukan apa"? Kalau tidak, kembalikan satu atau dua kata benda jadi kata kerja.
Kesalahan khas orang Indonesia
Dua jebakan yang paling sering muncul di laporan:
- Preposisi setelah kata benda. Perubahan pakai in: an increase in sales, a drop in costs. Dampak pakai on: an impact on profit. Besarnya perubahan baru pakai of: an increase of 10%. Karena bahasa Indonesia cukup bilang "kenaikan penjualan", kita sering asal menempelkan of.
- Kata benda karangan sendiri. Approvement dan discussment tidak ada. Yang benar approval dan discussion.
Kesalahan umum: We are still waiting for the director's approvement. → We are still waiting for the director's approval.
Kata benda dari approve adalah approval. Kalau ragu, cek kamus dulu sebelum dipakai di laporan resmi.
Ingat!
- Nominalisasi = kata kerja atau kata sifat jadi kata benda: decide → decision, accurate → accuracy.
- Pola favorit laporan: the + N + of, N + to V1, There has been an increase in…, N + led to + N.
- Preposisi: perubahan pakai in (an increase in sales), dampak pakai on, besarnya pakai of (an increase of 10%).
- Jangan mengarang kata benda: approval, bukan approvement.
- Secukupnya saja. Kalau pembaca tidak bisa menjawab "siapa melakukan apa?", kembalikan ke kata kerja.
